[S]hale gas has gone from 4 percent of the total natural gas produced in the United States in 2005 to a projected 40 percent this year, according to the U.S. Energy Information Agency (EIA). Or take oil—in the last decade U.S crude oil production has increased from five million barrels a day to its current pace of more than nine million barrels a day.

Major Natural Gas Discovery
A natural gas field off the coast of Egypt covers 40 sq. mi. and may hold up to 30 trillion cu. ft. of natural gas, equivalent to 5.5 billion barrels of oil.
