An 11-Year-Old Woman

The Chilean president rightly noted that an 11-year-old girl who was raped and became pregnant but chose not to abort her child demonstrated maturity far beyond her age.  Nobody said life is fair.  This is a courageous way of confronting one of life's nastiest challenges.  I am also pleased to note that when a Catholic priest heard about a woman who was considering aborting her unborn child because the baby was diagnosed with Down's syndrome, he put out a call for other people to adopt the child.  They quickly received hundreds of offers.  If the child is eventually adopted by others, I think the child's birth parents will eventually grow to appreciate the fact that the child was saved.  Finally, I am also pleased to note that the Texas state house voted 98-49 to endorse new abortion restrictions.
